On April 2, a preliminary number of 6 tornadoes occurred in or close to Louisville, Kentucky. While the exact number of tornadoes and their strength are still being determined, the storms began moving into that area shortly after noon. The areas just east and northeast of metropolitan Louisville were hardest hit, including Prospect, New Castle, Pendleton, and Buckner in Kentucky, as well as Watson and Jeffersonville in Indiana.

Immediately following the tornado outbreaks, Minuteman Team Members from FEMA Region 4 scouted locations and conducted damage assessments. Later that day, Sawyer and Heavy Equipment Team Members deployed to begin relief operations throughout the Louisville, KY area.
